blog 6

I was shocked when with What Johnny Shouldn't Read so far. I can't believe the smallest things are banned from textbooks. I think children need to be exposed to things like aliens so they can make their own judgement on it. If they're kept from that kind of information, they could get a biased opinion thrown in their face instead of creating their own.

blog 5

Yes, that should be their main job. People aren't going to know about all of the things that go on in the world without the media to help us out. We also don't need biased twists when we get the news reported to us. If we just got the facts, nobody could complain. People could make their own opinions on news stories instead of hearing it from someone who has a very radical opinion.

Mill Response

Yes, I do agree with Mill that governments have no right to interfere with an individual's liberty unless that individual's behavior will cause harm to someone because a person's nature is to be free and uncontrolled. If it's not harming anyone then let the person do it. What does it matter? If governments controlled everything that every person did, people would start to rebel to regain their own freedom. People are like wild animals; if you keep them in a cage, they will find a way to get out, and then the real problems will be unleashed.

Milton

According to Milton, how or why does truth become a heresy if a person believes things only because his pastor or government tells him so? Why does Milton find this practice dangerous?

Milton's Areopagitica demonstrates that Milton believed that truth came out only through censorship. Basically, people weren't allowed to think for themselves. Any truth that they received came through the government's perception of the truth. Which was censored. The people had to believe what the government told them to believe. Milton believed this was dangerous because people could never think for themselves. They all turned into sheep. The government had the power and the people had no room to progress. When the government is the only unit with power, it can get dangerous to the public.

#1

1. If i were an animal I would be a bird so I could go anywhere I wanted in the world just by flying.
2. Five non-living things I can't be without are: my car, my cell phone, my ipod, my computer, my tv, and my hair straightener.
3. I'm more of a reader and a listener
4. One book I would want with me on a desert island would be Anthem because it always keeps me thinking.
5. It depends on what the situation is whether I lead or follow.
6. The first 5 songs that would play on my ipod are a Misfits song, an AFI song, a Circa Survive song, a Saosin song, or a Bright Eyes song.
7. My best personality trait is that I laugh at everything so if someone says a really lame joke, I'll probably laugh anyways and it always makes them feel good. My worst is that I'm kinda shy when around new people.
8. If a donor gave me $1000 I would buy a plane ticket to somewhere in Europe to travel.
9. I've seen Superbad like a million times. I like it because it gets funnier everytime I watch it.
10. The best advice I've ever gotten was to always think for myself and not let others do it for me. I got that from my dad.
